What is Online Marketing

There are many myths and stories about what the search engines do and don’t like and of course, we all know there are many search engines, of which one, Google, stands out above the rest. In this report we will just use the name Google for search engines, as we would use the name Hoover for a vacuum cleaner.

The fact is thousands of people try to get websites on page 1 and Google employs thousands of people to try and stop us from doing so, why? Google makes lots of money from sponsored links ( right hand column on a search result page) so it is not in their favour to make it easy.

But when it comes to marketing your website, it is not just the search engine traffic you want…….

As an example: A traditionally marketed, small business will have business cards, leaflets, brochures or catalogues, advertise on local radio, gain editorial in local papers, advertise in local papers, sign write their vehicles even place window cards in newsagent windows, sponsor local football teams and place prices in raffles, just anything to get seen!!

Imagine if your website was your shop, and that shop only had one road coming to it, then all traffic had to come up that road, but if the traffic could not find that road, then you would get no trade.

An online marketing plan is where hundreds of roads are made to your website not just from the major search engines but from “footprints” left all over the internet, this includes making a your presence on many directories, some should be aimed exclusively at your trade, ie furniture directories, if you are selling furniture, or CCTV directories if you are seeling CCTV.

REMEMBER: We are all being watched…. It is no different on the Internet, if we build too fast Search Engines will mark us down, if we build too slow, your competitors will see our plan….. in this marketing plan as with a traditional marketing plan…. Patience is a virtue.
